FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions)
Below is a list of frequently asked questions. Please Contact Us if you have other questions not answered below.
If I order today, when will my swimsuit be completed? Wild Iris Custom Swimwear is made on an individual basis. Each custom swimsuit is manufactured when the order is received. Please allow 3 - 4 weeks for production and shipment on all Custom Swimwear. Our Ready-Made Swimwear are in-stock items. Please allow 3 -5 business days from receipt of your order for your Ready-Made Swimwear order to process and ship.
Shipping: What is the cost of shipping? Wild Iris Custom Swimwear shipping rates are based on standard shipping. We also offer 2-Day and Overnight shipping for additional charges. For shipping costs, please refer to our Shipping Information page.
Sizing: What if I’m between sizes on your size chart? Your custom swimsuit should be worn snug to allow for maximum support. If you are in between sizes, we suggest you ask yourself whether you want support or comfort. For additional support, you should select the smaller size. For more added comfort, you can select the larger size but consider that it may become baggy when wet. For additional advice on fitting our custom swimwear, go to our Sizing Information Chart or Contact Us.
Sizing: I always have trouble with my shoulder and back straps not fitting. What should I do? Wild Iris offers several styles with adjustable shoulder strap option. Adjustable shoulder straps are like those found on bra shoulder straps. They are not as supportive as our fixed shoulder straps. Our fixed shoulder straps can be shortened or lengthened based on your needs. Back straps may also be shortened or lengthened based on your rib measurement. Please use the comment section of your order form to indicate any special requests.
Sizing: I can never find a onepiece swimsuit that fits, what should I do? Wild Iris Custom Swimwear is not like ready-made swimwear. We offer different sizing options for you to choose from, such as … a different size for your top, bottom or torso length. To review our onepiece swimsuit size options, go to our Sizing Information Chart.
Sizing: How should a swimsuit fit? Your custom swimsuit should be worn comfortable and snug. Swimwear fabric stretches more when wet and can become baggy if worn too loose. If your side seams are stretching and the pattern has changed, your swimsuit is too tight. Wearing a swimsuit too tight reduces the life of the suit by compromising the elastic and fabric caused by excessive stretching. Sizing Information Chart
Fabric: What swimsuit fabric does Wild Iris use? All of the fabric used by Wild Iris Custom Swimwear is first quality lycra, which is standard swimsuit fabric. All of our fabrics include nylon or spandex lycra which are the fibers within the fabric that allow it to be stretchy yet retain its shape and support. The following information might assist you in choosing your custom swimsuit fabric.
- Chlorine Resistant Fabrics
With years of experience, we have found no Chlorine Resistant Fabric. Chlorine is similar to bleach and with continuous exposure, it may cause fabric breakdown and fading.
- Metallic Fabrics
We offer a number of metallic fabrics. Metallic fabrics are nylon lycra with a metallic overlay. These overlays have gotten stronger over the years but are still subject to flaking and dulling. Special care should be given to these suits which are made more for their look and less for their durability.
- Neon Prints and Solids
Neon and bright colored fabrics (orange, yellow, lime green, hot pink) may fade quicker than other fabrics.
- Velvets
Velvet fabrics are beautiful and unique. They tend to absorb more water and become heavier than other fabrics.
- Snags
Nylon lycra fabric snags. Use care when sitting along the side of a pool. If a snag occurs, DO NOT PULL IT. Gently cut it off and apply a tiny drop of clear nail polish. Although the nail polish may show slightly, you are less likely to create a hole.
- Powernet
Powernet is a more rigid fabric that can be used to line the front panel of all Wild Iris onepiece swimsuits. Because this fabric is heavier and stiffer than swimwear fabric, it does afford some "tummy control." However, it also reduces the flexibility of a suit and is not recommended for those seeking comfort or mobility.
- Deep Colored Prints and Bleeding Fabrics
Some printed fabrics may have color bleeding the first few times they are wet. Use caution when sitting on other fabrics (towels, chairs, car seats, sarongs) or when wearing other clothing over the top. It is best to test your fabric to make sure it has stopped bleeding.
- Fabric Swatches
If you would like to receive fabric samples before ordering, we will gladly send them to you. For more information, please refer to our Swatch Request Form.
I am having a hard time deciding what style to select. Do you have any advice? Selecting the correct style for your particular body type is always a difficult task. Our best advice is for you to think about the swimsuit styles that you have worn in the past. The styles that we offer are very traditional and it is likely you will find something that you have liked previously. Wild Iris offers numerous styles to meet your specific needs. For more information, please Contact Us and our experienced staff will assist you.
How do I care for my swimsuit? To extend the life of your swimwear, we recommend that you hand wash your swimsuit in cool water with gentle detergent after each use. Do not dry or spot clean with harsh chemicals and never use Woolite. The lanolin in Woolite may cause early deterioration of elastic and lycra. Line dry your swimsuit out of direct sunlight. Never wring, wrap in a towel or place your swimsuit in a washer or dryer. Exposure to heat will reduce the life of the elastic and the lycra fibers. Do not put your swimwear in a plastic bag when wet as this may cause fabric colors to bleed.
